- Q: Does the Stock Ticker always have to be hooked up to a computer to work?
A: No. Four custom messages can be stored. The messages are actually stored on a computer chip located in the power source (the cylindrical-shaped object inside the pedestal). Messages can be activated to print by touching the brass button located on the side of the pedestal, the button on the power source above the on/off switch, or a remote that can activate two messages from a distance. The Stock Ticker does need to be hooked up to a wall socket for AC power.
- Q: How did you get it to work, and can I really get live stock quotes printed out on it?
A: The CD you receive with your unit translates modern binary language into analog impulses. When you load your favorite stocks into our custom-developed software and connect to the Internet, your computer will look for the stocks you selected using eSignal.com and send the information to the circuit board located in the pedestal. It is at this point that digital data is changed to electrical impulses that your Stock Ticker understands.
- Q: How do I get live stock quotes to print out on the Stock Ticker?
A: We have an Agreement with eSignal.com to provide us with a 20-minute-delay stock feed from the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, and Mutual Funds. You can also print out the quotes for the 30 companies that comprise the Dow Jones Industrial Average (we're working on options-- please let us know if this is of interest to you). This service comes with your Stock Ticker as part of your purchase price. You simply need to sign on to your browser and then use the application provided to pick your favorite stocks or mutual funds. It is very easy to use.
- Q: How many stocks can I print on the Stock Ticker, and how often will they print out?
A: You may select as many stocks or mutual funds as you like. You're only limited by the speed of the Stock Ticker. The application we provide allows you to add or delete selections at any time. The program then goes to eSignal.com, retrieves your selections, and prints them on the Stock Ticker. The electronic digital data is changed to electrical analog impulses inside your power source. You can set your Stock Ticker to print quotes continuously or at a variety of intervals throughout the day. It's easy.
- Q: How long is the printer cable?
A: The printer cable we are currently using is 10 feet long. Three feet are used inside the pedestal, so that leaves seven feet outside the pedestal. We are currently considering changing to a longer cable. If so, at shipping time, we will include the longer cable with your Stock Ticker order. We are also researching wireless applications. If we develop a wireless application to free your Stock Ticker completely from your computer, we will include this with your Stock Ticker order. If we develop a longer cable or a wireless application after you have received your Stock Ticker, we will send you the upgraded cable or application at no additional charge.
- Q: Can my computer function normally when hooked up to the Stock Ticker?
A: Yes. Simply place the application in the background as you would do with word processing or e-mail applications.
- Q: Can I get an electrical shock from touching the Stock Ticker when it is in operation?
A: No. The AC power is changed to DC in the power source, and the voltage going into the Stock Ticker is extremely low. We place our hands on the contacts on the Stock Ticker to demonstrate its safety. All cables are modern and comply with today's specifications. We simply take modern cables and weave them in a cloth material as the original wiring was done.
- Q: What if I want to use the Stock Ticker at another location without taking the pedestal or glass dome with me?
A: No problem. Your Stock Ticker is portable. This great feature is the product of creative engineering. Your Stock Ticker can be easily removed from the pedestal simply by disconnecting the cables (red on right, black on left). Then disconnect the cables from the power source. Place the power source and Stock Ticker in your carrying case (which is included with your Stock Ticker), and take it with you to another location. An additional set of cables is in your carrying case to hook the power source to the Stock Ticker. Your stored messages will still work, or you can hook the Stock Ticker up to a laptop computer and allow the audience to print their own messages or stock quotes. Anyone using our Stock Ticker appreciates this portability feature. You'll find all kinds of uses for your Stock Ticker at presentations, parties, educational venues, trade shows, office functions, and more. Talk about an attention-getter. - Q: I am a collector and am concerned that this reproduction may soon be confused with the original stock ticker artifacts. What are you doing to prevent this type of confusion?
A: We are collectors of original stock ticker artifacts as well, and we fully understand this concern. Each reproduction is serial-numbered and engraved with its manufacturing date. Also we've given credit to the modern manufacturer with an engraving on the opposite side of the assembly from the serial information.
